Drain Cleaners

Please use all drain cleaners and other chemicals at your own risk as many of them contain harmful substances that may put yourself and your family at risk.

Homemade Drain Cleaner and Openers

We always encourage our visitors to use commercial drain cleaners as a last resort, or even not at all.  There are a number of simple "home remedy" type drain cleaners that work surprisingly well.  We have included a couple of those below:

Dish Detergent and Hot Water - This drain cleaning method has been proven time and time again to work quite well on even some of the toughest toilet clogs.  Simply pour a small amount of dish soap into your toilet bowl, allow to sit for around 15 minutes and them dump about a gallon of hot water into your toilet bowl.  Wait another 15 minutes and flush, you may need to repeat this process again to completely remove the clog.

Baking Soda and Vinegar - Have you ever seen how a science project volcano foams and erupts?  The process is most commonly caused by a reaction between the baking soda and the vinegar.  This foaming drain cleaner can be easily used by pouring a quarter of a box of baking soda into your toilet bowl, immediately after begin pouring in the vinegar until the foaming process has stopped.  Flush your toilet and repeat if necessary.

Always Remember to Put Safety First

When ever you come in contact with any type of chemical, you should always use extreme caution.  Drain cleaners have been known to cause everything from minor skin irritations to severe burns, blindness and in some cases even death.

Always remember to keep chemicals out of reach of children and away from pets.  Use them as directed on the label and be sure to where the proper safety attire such as eye goggles and rubber gloves when handling.

TOILET REPAIR HIGHLIGHTS

You may enjoy these random highlights from advice and information found right here on the My Clogged Toilet website.

The flapper is the part that closes over the seat valve and it is probably getting stuck when you flush the toilet and is not closing all of the way.

If you have room in the bowl of your toilet you might try pouring a bucket of water into it to see if the pressure from the water makes the toilet unstop.

You want to make sure that there is no tubing that interferes with the fill valve, and if you thing that the tube may be a little too long you may have to cut some off.

If your toilet leaves water on the floor around it then more than likely your wax seal is leaking.
